We are a couple and we are going for 2 weeks to Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar in July. Do you recommend any other place to visit in the island. We would also love to visit Pemba.
Dar gets quite busy as a city so if you want to escape for a day or two - visit Oyster Bay 10 min to the north. It's generally where the diplomats live and feels more "resort town".
There's a fun hostel called Q bar with very reasonable private rooms - and a backpacker room which always has a great crowd! The best part is the first floor bar is a bit of a 'prostitute working ground', so it gets a bit fun and interesting. Don't let it deter you! Great place! Re Zanzibar, a LOT of the coastal beaches in Zanzibar have sea urchins which we didn't know until we got to Matemwe and couldn't swim at all!
No sea urchins, the whitest sand beaches - some appear with the low tides, very reasonably priced lodge, cute and quaint! But be warned, rural Zanzibar and other islands are low on ATMs and the second you leave Stone Town, there aren't any at all!! There are some great places in Stone Town to grab a drink too! Very "sultan". Thanks a lot da5ha! Very good tips ; Oyster Bay is probably a good choice to avoid staying in the city at night Is it easy to take local transports to the city?
We also saw "Mikadi beach", near Kigamboni. Did you hear about this one? We will definitely include Jambiani to our route. Loved the tip for the sunset dinner! Thanks again. This topic has been automatically locked due to inactivity. Email community lonelyplanet.
